Sa-choom

Sa-choom, meaning "dance when you are in love," uses dance to tell a love story that resonates with audiences from all walks of life. Seamlessly blended into a simple story line, hip hop, jazz, modern dance and break dance combine with lively rhythms and beats. Since its opening in October 2004, the performance has won a Seoul Foreign Correspondents' Club Award, in the category of culture, in 2006. Sa-choom toured through 37 cities in 2007. The performance was staged to sold out shows in the Face Theatre in Shinjuku, Japan, from May 1 to 7, 2007. It was also selected as the biggest hit performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2008.

Sa-choom features three main characters: Jun, Seon and Bin, aged 7, 15 and 19, and centers around their coming of age. The story of their growing pains and the emotions they go through are expressed purely through dance.

The six styles to Sa-choom involve modern dance, jazz and hip-hop, each of which is introduced in Overture. Single and group dances are showcased in Sa-choom. There is a hint of a forthcoming love in The Lovers. Witty expressions of birth are combined with brilliant visual images in The Life in the Body; Sensuality and Temptation drives the audience to a breathless intensity. Individual dancer’s talents are showcased in Contest. Finally, the production concludes with group dancing in Let’s Dance.

: The exclusive theatre for Sa-choom first opened to the public on May 7, 2008, following renovation of the Hollywood Theatre in Nagwon Arcade, Insa-dong, Seoul. Located between the Insa-dong and Tapgol Park, the theatre is well situated for tourists and locals alike, who share an interest in traditional Korean culture. The fourth floor of the Nagwon Arcade building, where the theatre is located, is a rooftop with a great view. The theatre has a seating capacity of 370 with a cozy ambience.
